Fine Arts Academy
Goals and Philosophy
The Fine Arts Academy is a ministry of First United Methodist Church of Coppell, Texas. It functions under the umbrella of the Music Ministry and serves the church by:
Providing excellent training in the fine arts.
Assisting in meeting student’s spiritual needs.
Developing future church music leaders.
Acting as an outreach platform for FUMC.
It is our desire to provide the best in fine arts instruction to both students and adults. We are dedicated to creating an atmosphere where students and adults can learn fine arts, grow spiritually and use their talents to glorify our Creator.
Enrollment and Instruction
Private study is offered in piano, voice, guitar, trumpet, flute and violin. The lessons are offered on a weekly basis in 30 minute blocks. Advanced lessons are available with permission from the instructor and Academy director. These lessons are 45 minutes and will have an additional cost. Group lessons are offered in piano, and guitar. Students in group lessons are matched upon ability and age, and will not exceed five students per class. Please contact the director for group lesson times and availability.
To enroll, new students must contact the director, complete a registration form and enrollment agreement, and submit them with the registration fee AND first month’s tuition before lessons begin. When a student is enrolled, he/she is committing to an entire semester of study. Students registering after lessons start on August 23rd will only be taken if space is available. Please contact the director about pro-rated lessons requirements.
Lessons & Scheduling
During the enrollment process, each student will be assigned an instructor based on ability and schedule. The student or parent of the student will then be contacted to confirm a convenient lesson or class time. Once students are assigned a teacher and a lesson time, students and parents are expected to communicate directly with their teachers. It is important that the student continue through the semester with their assigned time.
Instruction & Policies
The teachers at the Fine arts Academy are dedicated to teaching and developing important lifelong musical skills in their students. All of our teachers have professional experience and most hold advanced degrees in their area. At the first lesson, the teacher will assess the abilities of the student and assign curriculum for the semester. It is the responsibility of the parent to provide the book(s) that the teacher recommends. The cost of books is roughly $25 per semester.
Every teacher has completed a background check with the church prior to teaching. To further preserve our safe teaching environment, we ask that every student check in when they arrive to Wesley Hall for their lessons. Lessons are held in the Sunday School classrooms off of Wesley Hall. To provide consistency and an atmosphere conducive to learning, all Fine Arts Academy lessons are taught at FUMC Coppell. No exceptions.
Tuition
A $35.00 annual registration fee is due before lessons begin each fall. The registration fee covers the cost of recitals and other administrative expenses. This fee is in addition to the monthly tuition and becomes non-refundable on August 1st.
Tuition is $400 per semester for private lessons and $225 per semester for group lessons and includes 16 lessons each semester. This total may conveniently be paid in four monthly installments of $100 or in full at the beginning of each semester. Summer tuition is $150 for 6 lessons, payable in full by the first summer lesson
Make Up Policy
We consider your private lesson time a standing appointment. If the teacher has to miss a lesson, it will be made up. If the student misses a lesson, PRIOR NOTICE IS REQUIRED. With proper prior notice, the teacher will make up ONE lesson per student per semester. The instructor must be notified in no less than twenty-four hours before the lesson to redeem the make-up lesson
